August 15 in Italy is a holiday and it is traditionally in the middle of the summer vacation, when the whole country shuts down and spends the morning cooking for a big fat lunch with family and friends. As we are rather unconventional, we went instead for a hike near this wonderful mountain. Mount Pulchiana is an inselberg (or monadrock) whose peculiarity is of being a monolith, the biggest all over Europe, formed during the Carboniferous period, about 340 millions year ago. From this side, it looks like a chubby giant's face.
And we had wild blackberries for lunch!
what a beautiful sky to pair off with the peculiar looking rocks. but where is the self portrait? that'd been way cool for you to have got one, say à la Mapplethorpe right there in the middle of the path! aces!
@seattlite thanks, Gloria! It’s a majestic boulder! @s4sayer thank you, Margo! @sarasotab ooops! I thought the translation from the Italian was the same “Great Gentle Giant” but I see the mistakes! Thanks a lot! @summerfield I was with daughter and wife... difficult to explain a Mapplethorpe pose... thank you a lot! @stiggle thank you, Anja
@allie912 it’s the same thing my wife said: we have a Monument Valley and nobodies knows... thank you @golftragic hehe they were really sweet! It was a nice way to spend the holiday!
