Aurora Borealis, Alaska by dridsdale

Aurora Borealis, Alaska

It was -38 last night and fortunately we had a yurt to go get warm...it was impossible to stay out very long. Unfortunately the light show was not as intense as what we witnessed last September, but I sure love the backdrop better.
Gorgeous. I've always wanted to see the Northern Lights!

Wow, fantastic. Were you on a holiday in Alaska? Can you send me details if possible as I'd love to go there. Fabulous image. We went to Iceland to see the lights but they were nowhere near as good as yours!

@shepherdmanswife Thank you! We had much better lights last September then last week. I liked the backdrop better with the snow though. The best place to go is Coldfoot or Wiseman which is 60 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Since it is so far north, you have greater chance of clear skies. We only made it to Chena Hot Spring which isn’t far from Fairbanks this past trip. Feel free to email me if you would like more information (ridsdaled@gmail.com)

@dridsdale thank you Debra. I’ve had a brief search for flights and accommodation but the flights alone would cost £3000 for the 2 of us and the accommodation seems to be expensive too so will have to save up ☹️

@shepherdmanswife The only reason we have been able to afford this is because my husband (prior to Coronavirus) travels to China a lot so we have frequent flyer and hotel perks. So we have definitely taken advantage of this, but unfortunately it is coming to a halt and our vacations will probably be camping locally 🙂
