2016.02.12 Friday,: Today was the beginning of the Great Backyard Bird Count weekend ...The most highly-anticipated event of the year for eBirders. On this weekend volunteers from all over the world count birds and report them to Cornell University Lab of Ornithology's eBird site.
Although I maintain my daily bird counts on eBird throughout the year, I always enjoy seeing all the extra activity during this time.
Today we were blessed with a warm, sunny day -- so I was able to walk around my yard to see and hear the birds. It was a wonderful day with a lot of bird activity; at one time I saw over 50 Chipping sparrows flitting around our yard!
In this photo, two Chipping sparrows and a Carolina wren tried to squeeze around the feeder at the same time ...It was a little too crowded!
I got an email about a backyard count but its not this weekend, I think! Anyway we only have about 2 sparrows that appear. Where are the blackbirds, thrushes, tuis, bellbirds, etc etc? This photo is gorgeous!
