The long and winding road by dulciknit

The long and winding road

It has rained here today. All day. Not heavily but persistently, nevertheless. That horrible stuff that's like a heavy drizzle rather than an honest-to-goodness downpour.
I was going to take a photo, looking over the field on the right, of a cloud sitting on the Chiltern Hills because that's what clouds here tend to do. Of course by the time I got there the cloud had lifted. Isn't it always the way? So here's a view of the Icknield Way* instead and I've still got the murky weather look, I think.

* The Icknield Way is a very old road, possibly pre-dating Roman times - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icknield_Way - but it has been re-surfaced since then. :)
Beautiful scenery, can spot the mist/rain in the distance!!It does add to the atmosphere.

I can certainly see the long and winding road, you have captured it so well. Great pov. Love the little splash of red berry colour in the front corner. The misty horizon really adds to that autumn feel of your shot. Fav.

I love to find really old roads - there is a sense of history about them that is almost palpable, and I like to imagine the people who walked there.

Great shot for a drizzly, misty day!

Is that Tring station in the distance?
Nice shot, despite the rain Alison.

I have to agree. I prefer one huge downpour as opposed to a never-ending drizzle all day. Fab capture of the long and winding road in a misty view.

@gphelps5 Hi Graham. Thank you :)
This is the other side of Halton from Wendover (I'm not sure if it's still counted as part of Halton, though). Almost directly opposite the Stable Bridge Road junction there's a gate , straight off the Icknield Way road, into a footpath that skirts a field. That bend in the road ahead is just before the junction onto the old A41 below the big roundabouts by the Crow's Nest. If it wasn't for the mist you could just about make out the end of the Chilterns and Ivinghoe Beacon. A bit like this one from a couple of days ago : http://365project.org/dulciknit/365/2012-10-15
You can see the same bend in the road in that photo, by the right hand hogweed stem.

Thanks Alison, I can see it now, I drive round that bend every morning on the way to work, just never seen it from the other side of the hedge.
