I can't believe it - the second time ever (and in a month) that I've had a dragonfly lite near me long enough to catch a shot (when traveling to the South last Fall - yes, I think the heat and humidity - but we don't get a lot of humidity here on the Central Coast of California)! I wish I knew enough to process out the background so he could stand out - something to learn on :-)
Many of us feel butterflies are symbols of loved ones passed, come to check-in or remind us they are with us... I've always loved these guys but I do attribute Dragonflies to someone specific and so, I always ask and wonder... is that you? Today, I thought yes.
Have a super week everyone - and seriously - thank you for your comments and encouraging words - they truly keep me shooting - especially on days like this one where maybe 3 shots out of I don't know how many - came out o.k. Virtual hugs and thanks!
Year 7 on this adventure! I’m especially appreciative of the community found here! I am inspired by everyone; learning from so many. Your shares make...
Lucky you to get the dragon settled long enough to get a shot. I saw a few this morning but there was no way I could get a shot as they were so flighty and I am sure they were dive bombing me! !
Sometimes when I deepen the shadows in the exposure I can get the background to fade a bit. I too have had experiences like you have described. They certainly seem more than coincidence.
Well done on a nice sharp photo of a flighty critter. Not sure how well you know your camera but if you are using Aperture Priority, try opening the lens up a bit to decrease the dof eg f5.6. Thy experimenting on a stationary subject and check your results. Learn by experimenting and keep at it.
@milaniet@suzanne234@dawnee Thank you! I took several so that I'd hopefully get one that was clear. Sometimes that doesn't always work out and with these guys flying off so quick! I was super happy I got one that was sharp. Thank you again - you encourage me and this crazy habit '-)
@pamknowler Yup! There were a handful and I'm sure you're right about them dive bombing! This one was on the opposite side of the estuary and you are correct - I was super lucky - he sat long enough for me to take several shots - other than this one, they weren't crisp.
@janeandcharlie thank you for the idea Jane. I tried that but he blends in too much with the back ground. I'm going to have to learn PS I guess and learn how to layer!
@alex_g Thank you Alex. I think my issue really is that he blends so well with the background (probably why he lit for as long as he did - thought he was camouflaged). I shoot in manual and he stayed long enough for me to hurriedly run through a few stops and comp with the shutter speed - it was a bit overcast and you are correct, this is at a higher stop so that's the clarity issue but the others didn't come out as sharp - probably more to do with the hurriedly part '-) Thank you for the help. I appreciate it!
