Thanks you all for some lovely and interesting comments. I should explain that my sister-in-law had a home on Luing for many years. One of the cottages adjacent to these in fact.

The community is active, Luing is one of the slate islands and these houses were quarry workers' homes until the quarry ceased working in 1965. Now may are holiday homes.
