We visited the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) today as it is their biennial opening to the public. I’ll admit that I didn’t take Physics as an O’ level option and failed chemistry which I know was somewhat a disappointment to my Dad who was an analytical chemist! I think he was prepared though when he was asking me about ‘valencies and moles’ the day before my exam and I described small furry creatures that dig tunnels.
The NPL is fascinating and especially so as it is one of the few laboratories in the world that has a ‘caesium fountain clock’ that generates the most accurate time that many clocks are calibrated from (todays interesting fact!).
