13th May 2016

What a great day and a tonic after all the computer work. Today we went on the Belmond Pullman (like the Orient Express) on a circular trip from Victoria to Broadstairs and back again. This Colin’s 70th birthday present from his daughter Karen last year and fortunately for me it was for two people! We dressed smartly and arrived early at Victoria and waited in the special Belmond Lounge.

At around 10.45 we were ushered onto the train onto Pullman ‘Audrey’ - an original Pullman carriage built in the 1930’s. Then we basically grazed and ate for around 5 hours starting with a glass of champagne (we hadn’t actually left Victoria at that point), followed by a five course meal. Our train stopped briefly at Broadstairs and we were welcomed by a 4-piece jazz band and trays of fresh oysters along with a glass of some sort of white wine.

By the time we returned to Victoria in the afternoon we felt quite tired from all the eating. I’ll be honest, the return trip on South West trains was not quite the same experience!
