13th September 2016

A longer excursion today after yesterdays potter around the complex. The first stop was within the Parc Natural de S’Albufera but a bit further around from Es Grau. We visited the Cap de Favaritx lighthouse. It was built in the 1920’s and is still in operation today although it is totally automated. I was going to post a pic of that until we went to our next stop when visiting La Mola near Mao.

La Mola is a massive fort built in 1830 and named after the then Queen of Spain - Isabel. It is totally deserted now and it is huge. We walked for nearly two hours and only covered half of the sites. It is an impressive defense built by the British but what I really was impressed by was the architecture inside. There was one place deep within the fort and cool underground that consisted of over 45 perfectly constructed arches running into the distance. It was very low lighting so I chose this image from near the entrance to the fort. Arches carved from sandstone with not a person in sight to ruin the effect!

As I was in two minds which image I wanted to post, here are two albums from today - one of the Cap de Favaritx lighthouse and the other of La Mola Fort -
