Well, that was unexpected! I had booked a special room on the 6th floor of the hotel for the views over the city of Bologna. We had arrived in the dark so when we opened the curtains this morning we were somewhat disappointed to find it was thick fog and we could barely see the building opposite!
Luckily the fog lifted by about 10.00am and we spent the day walking the city. It is fascinating and the number of towers are rakish angles and pavements covered by impressive porticos are unlike any other city we have visited.
This is a view of the Canali di Reno - a little known fact is that Bologna used to have almost as many canals as Venice but over the last 200 years or so they have been diverted or hidden by buildings. You can find little places where glimpses can be seen, including through a small metal ‘door’ in a wall in the middle of the street.
