16th March 2017

This is not the most riveting of images but is a sign of achievement for me.

My car key for the Astra has gradually been failing over the past few weeks to the extent that I have had to manually unlock the car on three occasions and the 'in car display' has been warning about a 'very low battery'. It was clear that the key fob battery needed replacing but the unit appeared sealed and I thought I'd need to pay a visit to our local garage.

Just as I was about to head out I decided to Google what type of battery was needed so I could pick one up for the garage. How surprising that someone has taken the time and trouble to post a YouTube video of exactly the same key fob and how to get it apart. A few minutes later with the help of Colin's penknife I had it opened and the battery was replaced. No large bill and it works with no problem - I am now a mechanic!
