OMG - a 5.00am get up this morning to travel to terminal 5 and then to Washington. It's going to be a long day! These are some shots out of the window when we flew over Windsor as we left the UK, then over the Atlantic to Northern Canada before dropping down to the surrounding area around Washington DC.

The flight, plane (747) and crew were all very good. Our journey started to go downhill with a 1.5 hour wait to get through immigration as there were literally only 5 desks staffed as two large jumbos simultaneously arrived.

We finally made it, collected our luggage that had been taken off the conveyor belt as it had been going around for so long and made our way by bus then metro to our hotel. It is very central and we have more of a small apartment than a room.

The day continued with stress as we spent a further 1.5 hours in the AT&T mobile shop buying an SD card for $56 for our 'mifi' gadget and then discovering that for some reason it did not work. I was loathed to leave without a refund but was told it would not be possible and so my charm offensive kicked in. Eventually after many calls, somebody in the technical department came up with the answer and with help from the very patient 'Wes' it is now working... I'm trying to stay up to avoid jet-lag but from the loud snoring next to me, Colin has not!

9,590 steps today - I'm keeping track for our trip.
