3rd August 2017

Today I really should be starting to work on making up this years quota of Christmas cards but a few weeks ago I planned to visit the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy with my friend Sarah. Unfortunately Sarah had to cancel at the last moment (not her fault) and as the tickets were non refundable I thought I’d go on my own and take the opportunity to try and get some new trail shoes at the same time for our big trip in September.

Shoe shopping was not productive in the morning so I headed over to the RA for the midday slot. I’ll be honest, it was much more fun last year with my friend as we made our way around some of the more extreme pieces of work. Not nearly so fun on my own and I don’t think it was as good as last year anyway. I should have stuck to a diet sandwich but I thought ‘sod it’ and went for lunch at the RA cafe. It was very nice if a little expensive. I had a crushed pea, mint and aged feta cheese ciabatta with salad, an Americano and a cranberry and nut cookie - Mmmm.

Not one to be beaten by shopping even though I don’t enjoy it, I eventually made it to shoe shop number 5 - ‘Blacks’ in Chancery Lane. Finally the perfect trail shoes in the right colour even with a bit of blue to finish them off. Originally £110, reduced to £79 and then I negotiated another £10 off! Great value for Merrell gore-tex, light weight shoes. Home after that!!
