10th September 2017

After the sunshine of yesterday the weather took a turn for the worst and it rained for most of the morning. I love Newlyn so the rain did not stop us walking the mile or so along the prom from Penzance.

The rain was pretty much lashing down when we arrived at the harbour but we wandered along towards the RNLI Ivan Ellen a Severn Class lifeboat and the Paul Alexander B787 - a B class lifeboat behind in dry dock.

The Newlyn lifeboat station replaced the Penlee lifeboat station from which the Solomon Brown set off in December 1981 and was tragically lost at sea whilst trying to save the crew of the MV Union Star - both crews on both vessels were lost in the ferocious seas.
