14th October 2017

Woo-hoo - we actually had a lie in this morning as we did not have breakfast booked at the hotel and so had nothing to get up early for. After a far more leisurely start which included some packing for our flight tomorrow, we strolled back to Lucia's in Central Market for breakfast. I enjoyed sourdough with avocado, tomatoes and basil with a flat white.

Adelaide does not have the number of sights that Melbourne does so we decided to head for the Botanic Gardens in the north of the CBD. The North Terrace is a very interesting road with all the museums and galleries located here along with the South Australia Masonic Temple!

The Gardens are beautiful. They are not as big as Kew but are lush and well organised. We had a snack accompanied by large ibis stealing food and I hand fed the crested pigeons. We explored the glass houses and lakes. It was a relaxing morning. We then caught a bus back to the centre and then the only tram line in the city down to the coast - Glenelg. An interesting place and an opportunity to see the surf rescue teams although I thought they clocked off rather early at 5.00pm. Just time for a macadamia and caramel ice cream between us before we got the tram back into town.

We had discovered this morning that the Central Market is not open on Saturday evenings so I found a local Thai restaurant only a short walk from the hotel. It was excellent - quite spicy and very authentic.

Then back to get a small amount of sleep before our 5.00am alarms to catch the earliest flight of our internal trips up to North Queensland - Cairns then Port Douglas. I'm rather worried as despite showing high temperatures and sun for the last few months, it shows heavy downpours and thunderstorms everyday for exactly the week we are there. Great.
