25th November 2019

Today was our last full day in Amsterdam… so we went to Utrecht on the train! Train travel is so civilised here, with plenty of train each day and all running on time.

Utrecht was a lot quieter than Amsterdam and the canals are different in the fact that the walkways are raised above them rather than alongside. It was a beautiful day and we walked the circuit around the town and through a park. Unfortunately, most restaurants and a number of shops seem to be closed on Mondays so we were somewhat limited in ur lunch options and ended up eating at ‘Comptoire Libanaise’ in the shopping centre (we last ate there a year ago at Gatwick airport!). We caught the train back again and walked down my now favourite street in Amsterdam - Haarlemmerdijk. We stopped and bought a lot of ‘Tony’s Chocolony’ chocolate for gifts and for us!

We decided we’d try and get to eat at the highly recommended Hap-Hmm Dutch restaurant but the only drawback is that you cannot make a booking and it is quite small. We caught the tram for the last time and found it down aide street. It looked like a residential house from the outside and indeed from the inside as well. We did have to queue but literals for less than ten minutes before we were ushered into what appeared to be a living room. The food really was excellent - I have the carpaccio and pesto for starters (this seemed more Italian than Dutch) and then the poser which was a massive piece of meat. We shared cherries and ice cream for dessert as they close early. Just as well our footstep count was high again to day with all the food we ate!
