16th April 2020

Day 24 of lock down.

Colin’s back is playing up so we decided to have an earlier wall today as I will be otherwise engaged this evening presenting my panel of images that should be currently on display in the Landmark Centre!

We walked to Bushy Park over the station footbridge avoiding the tine when any trains pulled in. The new entry and exit designated gates are certainly helping keep people at a safe distance although some prat seemed unable to read when we left and came in through the exit. It was a lovely morning and we walked up to the Heron Pond past lots of large carp in the Longford and literally thousands of tadpoles in the pond. Here was a heron stalking prey near the edge and we saw him catch a frog and then show a large amount of interest in some reeds where I spotted a little group of cowering moorhen chicks. The mother was trying to distract the heron and we moved forward and threw some stick to distract him until hr wandered off. The moorhen was so attentive, collecting more reeds to cover up the area where they were hiding. I hope they are OK.

We got back in time for lunch and it felt good to have been out. In the afternoon I stuck to backing up my laptop although there were a few hiccups with my iMac so I think we are fast approaching the time when I need to install the new RAM I bought just at the start of lock down.

Dominic Raab why was chairing the daily Corona Virus update from Downing Street announced the unsurprising news that we will have to continue under these lock down restrictions for at least the next three weeks until this is reviewed on the 7th of May. Although this was in no way a surprise it is still pretty daunting.

After M&S pork belly and stir fry with fresh pineapple for dessert, I headed upstairs to log onto my Zoom meeting and then wait by the bedroom window so we could ring our bells to celebrate the 8.00pm nationwide ‘clap’ for the NHS and caring services looking after us all. My photo club meeting afterwards seemed to go well although it is difficult talking about images with no feedback from the audience as everyone was on mute. It seemed to go down well although I was pretty nervous. There were some lovely images this evening from the other seven people presenting. I managed during the meeting to assist Colin in catching a massive green metallic beetle that landed on his keyboard - that’s multi-tasking for you! It turned out to be a rose chafer…

13,729 dead in the UK (up 861).

Germany and Denmark are starting to relax their restrictions but they have coped a lot better than the UK and our numbers of dead are far higher. Frighteningly we are on a par with Italy which now has over 22,000 dead…
