26th August 2020

Day 154 of semi lock down.

It's Wednesday so it must be golf day! Colin was out at Fulwell this morning but I had my own plans for once. I planned to get the final four shots for my Twickenham montage. I planned each one and calculated that the morning would be the optimum time for the best light. I headed out with facemask and took the bus to Twickenham. I hopped off briefly and carefully stood on the traffic island in between the four lanes of traffic, waiting for a brief glimpse of sun to light up the front of Sandy Fishmonger. Sandys is an institution in Twickenham and although I don't normally include shopfronts in my montages this had to be done. As usual despite the weather forecast suggesting sun and cloud, there was more cloud than sun and it took me a good 5 to 10 minutes to get the shot I wanted. Then it was back on the bus where I just got off and I took it to Orleans house school.

I had a rather nice walk to Orleans house, cutting through the wooded area. From a distance I was concerned that there was a car parked right where I wanted to photograph but when I finally got there it was all clear and the angle was perfect so yet again it was simply a case of waiting for a glimpse of sun to light the building. I did have to move the ice cream sign as I realised it would be quicker to simply move it than spend a lot of time cloning it out later. I also popped in and collected my unsold calendars from last year. It's pleasing that I've clearly made a profit and covered all my costs, however not quite enough profit to warrant all the work so I will not be making the calendar next year for 2021. Although having said that, I have got some ideas of using some of my montage of images and creating a calendar next year for sale for 2022!

After my photo shoot of Orleans house I walked around to Hammerton’s Ferry. This ferry is the only private crossing of the Thames anywhere on the tidal stretch. I had contacted the owners a few days ago for permission to access their floating pontoon as to get the shot I want means going onto private property. I met Andy and he could not have been more helpful in enabling me to get the shot I wanted I also got to meet the locally famous Nessie the cat for the first time.

With three photographs ‘in the bag’ it was time to continue for the final and possibly most important photograph - the facade of the ETNA building. This will be the central image of my Twickenham montage in much the same way that the Landmark Centre was the central image of my Teddington montage. I had calculated that the light would be best around midday as the shadows will be shortest and indeed I arrived there at 11:45 and the light was perfect. I realise looking at the image I will need to clone out a lot of signage either side of the door to give it greater impact. All in all this was a very successful morning shoot and in little under a week and a half I have 25 images ready to start organising into a new montage.
