30th September 2020

Day 189 of semi lock down.

Our last day in Derbyshire before we drive back home. The weather has been beautiful for the past few days so we cannot really complain that it rained all day today and torrentially on the motorway!

After checking out we stopped briefly to have a look at nearby Ashburton. It is a lovely town with a mix of old buildings in different architectural styles. I spotted this building with a red door matching the post box and telephone box. However, many shops were closed due to Covid 19 (including the bear shop where I hoped to buy an outfit for Gulliver). Ashburton’s peace is somewhat shattered by the constant stream of large quarry lorries passing through the town centre as there are no nearby motorways. We did not stay for long.

We had planned to drop by and visit Sophie but on the day she had an interview in Dudley and as we decide to leave early because of the bad weather, we gave a miss this time.

The drive back was difficult with a lot of spray and rain. We spilt the driving between us as usual so it was not too bad and we arrived back in the late afternoon. We stopped at a service station but because of the increasing Covid 19 rates across the country, we bought our lunch in the M&S there and ate it in the car, not wanting to stop for longer than necessary.

Home safely.
