13th November 2020

Day 9 of lock down 2 (day 232 since the start of the 1st lock down)

Today was not a good day, in fact it was pretty dire - it also happened to be Friday 13th.

It started off by me hearing the doorbell whilst still in bed and rushing down to unlock the porch to enable the DPD delivery chap to deliver my 6 frames I had ordered for the Twickenham montages. As I lugged the box in I could hear the tinkling of broken glass. I asked the man to mark that on his delivery sheet but he point blank rudely refused saying he’s already delivered it. I wasn't arguing with that, but the fact it was clearly broken on delivery.

I did not want to open it at all so I emailed the frame company to let them know what had happened. They asked me to open it and see if any of the frames had survived. I spread tarpaulin on the grass and donned gloves. I could not believe my eyes as every single one of the six frames had been truly and totally shattered. I can only think that the delivery man had dropped it face down as the corners were protected and undamaged. The frame company are going to send me a new set of frames more thoroughly wrapped but I am fuming.

Second issue of the day - come on - throw it at me. Colin’s son-in-law suggesting that he and all the family ‘pop over’ to our house tomorrow to deliver Colin’s birthday presents. I pointed out to Colin that we are in fact in the middle of the second lock down and nobody is allowed inside any house. I made it clear that I would not stay if they came over and potentially we would be liable for a £10,000 fine if spotted and ‘grassed up’ by someone. I thought that this might bring him to his senses but all he did was to call them back and say he’d go over to their house instead. I am furious. I have had to forgo my visit to deliver Mum’s birthday presents to her because of the lock down. Colin see’s his family regularly almost every week and yet for some reason he’s content to do this. Very frosty atmosphere tonight. Perhaps he’s come to his senses tomorrow.
