16th November 2020

Day 12 of lock down 2 (day 235 since the start of the 1st lock down)

The day has arrived - Colin’s 75th birthday. All hostilities suspended even though the anticipation of the day that I have been planning for months has evaporated.

I had put the parcel together with presents as clues to my main present of a trip to Switzerland in June 2021. I bit the bullet and gambled that we will finally be able to travel by then. Colin was pleased.

As we are limited in what we can do during this lock down, we walked to Richmond for lunch eaten outside from the Tide Tables cafe which was very nice. It seemed mild whilst walking but the moment we sat down it got very cold.

In the evening I had asked Colin what he wanted for his birthday dinner as we normally go out to a restaurant. Last year we used a voucher that Mum had given us to eat at La Chapelle, a Michelin starred restaurant near Liverpool Street. It was superb. I am not sure that my trio of seafood starters, steak main course with all the trimmings and lemon meringue pie as dessert was quite the same culinary standard but we did both enjoy it wasted down with a bottle of our favourite Campo Viejo Rioja!
