20th December 2020

Day 277 since the start of the 1st lock down.

I had that very brief moment when waking that all was well but that swiftly dispersed. It is Sophies birthday today and at least she has her presents and seems pleased with them.

We FaceTimed Jane - Colins cousins wife in Australia today. We had arranged a few days earlier to do it in the morning which would be about 8.00pm in Exeter New South Wales, south of Sydney. We had a lovely chat for well over an hour and could hear the parakeets in her garden. It was really nicety catch up and took my mind off yesterdays news.

I have been thinking about my parcels and despite both Hester and I promising Mum that we would not try and send anything before Christmas as they are ow only 4 postal days left, I changed my mind. I am more productive in an angry mood than depressed. I think I may be able to do it using Hermes which Sophie used to send presents to us. I have checked online and there is a newsagents literally at the bottom of Cambridge Road that I can drop parcels off to. I popped in and checked and the helpful chap inside suggested that if I could bring the parcel in today that would abetter than tomorrow. This put me in ‘sports mode’ with wrapping which I had given up on yesterday. I had to wrap 4 people’s presents and then find boxes the right size to pack them in (with a container of cheesy footballs each) and then somehow weight the large boxes. Colin came up with the idea of using our luggage scales (not used hardly at all this year) which worked and the cost was far less than the Royal Mail, and it avoids the hour plus queues I had the other day. I rushed to pack and box them and then lugged them around to the shop. There were already 60 other parcels from people who must have had the same idea as we are in the same situation. It was a relief to drop them off and I paid extra to both inside and speed them along to their destinations in Cornwall and North Yorkshire.

I feel a bit better when I had done this and have my fingers crossed they will make it in time before Christmas. I took time to notice the decorations in Cambridge Road only way back and this is an impressive house near M&S.
