6th June 2022

2 years and 70 days since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020

An alarm at 7.00am and a taxi booked for 8.15am but amazingly turned up early and we were off. I feel better not leaving Pingado behind as he is currently residing in his Richmond holiday home!

Traffic wasn’t too bad and we arrived at 8.40, straight through back drop as we had managed to check in yesterday and then onto security which is where the queues were starting but even having to pause for my handbag to be searched - no idea why - we were through and waiting for breakfast in Giraffe by 9.20.

The plane was full up and the middle seat was taken by a friendly chap who lives in Zurich and was telling us all about it. The flight was so short I didn’t get a chance to do much at all although I was feeling quite under the weather.

Zurich airport is huge, spacious and very efficient and despite being relegated to the ‘other’ passport queue rather than EU, we were though in a few minutes with luggage arriving soon after.

It was a little challenging to find the train station but it really did operate like clockwork and there was no problem using our half price rail cards which were in fact checked on the train. We arrived in Bern to hot sunshine and what should only by a ten minute walk but with cases took nearer twenty with a lot of encouragement!

The hotel room is very quiet and as it seems to be a bank holiday in Switzerland today, we ate in the hotel restaurant this being and it was a very nice meal. This is the view (in the rain) from the rooftop bar o0f the hotel over the roofs of Bern.

Last rather depressing piece of news if that following a secret vote against Boris Johnson this evening he retains a majority of support, albeit a slim one so he’s in power for at least another year. What were the MPs thinking?!
Lovely roofscape.
