28th October 2022b

A bit of a different day today as we headed up town later in the afternoon for the Met Police sports association - The Comets - celebration of their 90th anniversary. We caught the tube to the Embankment and then walked to Smith and Wollensky’s - the only branch of an American steak restaurant in the UK.

The venue was excellent and we were ushered downstairs to a dedicated room for the one hundred plus. There were two welcome glasses of Prosecco with a number of different canapés including mini lamb chops and tempura vegetables amongst many which Colin and I both managed to try quite a few of.

I met up with a friend - Faizi - who I worked out that I had not seen for over twenty years!! She really did not look much different and we picked up where we left off. We took our seats at the table with some people Colin knew and then enjoyed a three course meal starting with heritage tomatoes and burrata, then onto a great steak with individual portions of chips and finished up with American cheesecake.

There was a magician who visited the tables although seemed to manage to miss our table but as I am not keen on magicians it was no great loss. After dinner (with half a bottle of wine each - more for me as not many on the table were drinking red wine) there was a live band playing covers. They were very good although my age is showing as I thought they were rather loud - I did get up and dance though!

We left around midnight, not because our carriage would turn back into a pumpkin but rather we didn’t want to miss the last train home. A very good evening.
