9th February 2023

Thunder and wind again this morning with seems to be the theme of the weather this week but the good news is that by the time we are ready to go out it generally stops raining and brightens up.

We drove the short distance to the Rio Formosa nature reserve which we had found the GPS coordinates for earlier. It was a fascinating walk around the nature reserve through salt pans and marshes with views across the estuary and several bird hides on route. I was hoping for a glimpse of the chameleon but apparently they are still hibernating so I had to settle for a leaflet in Portuguese to look at . The interpretation centre was very well laid out and answered a lot of questions that we had about the area.

We were pleased to have walked the entire place which basically meant that we earned our lunch in Fuseta. It was here that I had my birthday lunch last year and this time we visited the same stretch fish BBQ restaurants in the town although the one we had previously eaten at was closed so we settled for the one on the far right in the corner. We both ordered sword fish and were presented with freshly grilled fish - absolutely massive with a sale and potatoes. Again, we managed to squeeze down a home made dessert. A repeat of last years attempt at photographing the terns and then we walked across the beach even though the tide was coming in but still no chameleons!

After the size of our lunch we stopped briefly at Pingo Doce on the way back but did not need to go out again for dinner so had snacks at home whilst watching Netflix that Colin managed to rig up on the television - another good day.
