25th April 2023

Finally the day for Colin’s stitches to be taken out at Kingston hospital. We arrived a few minutes early and went in a few minutes early. The same nurse took out the stitches as had done last time but this time Colin saw the Registrar rather than the Consultant. All seems to have healed well and he can start to get back to normality now.

In the later afternoon (after a snooze as the Covid after effects are still with me) - I set off up town to Chalk Farm after meeting Sarah on route on the train at Raynes Park. Her friend Sam had managed to get tickets for us all to see Guy Garvey at the Roundhouse in Camden with an evening of his guests from Radio 6. It was quicker than expected to get up there so we had time for a drink in the pub opposite.

I’ve never been to the Roundhouse before and despite a bit of a trek there, it’s a brilliant venue and we had great seats with a good view. The concert was excellent with a real mix of artists and Guy joined in on the last of each of their songs. Simon Armitage also appeared with three of his poems set to music - superb.

We finished just before eleven but the tubes were less regular on our trip back down to Waterloo so I did not get back to Teddington until 12.35am!! I had to run to the Guard as i found a woman on the train who had fallen so deeply asleep that I could not wake her - apparently she was the third ‘sleeper’ he’s had on the train. Colin was very gentlemanly and had walked out meet me in the High Street even though it was pretty deserted - a great evening with friends.
