Nice hat!

The Fallow deer in Bushy Park are enjoying easily getting to the grass and moss now that the snow has all but gone - apart from the remains of some distinctly anorexic looking snowmen. Every now and again they get ferns caught in their antlers, usually when ‘play rutting’ with each other. This one however looked positively proud of its headgear and remained posing for quite some time!

Re. my comment yesterday on my zoom lens - there are definitely some focussing issues - I’m crossing my fingers it is just a recalibration job and I can get a quick turn-around :-(
Deer in disguise? Nice and sharp, with soft background - great photo.

@whdphotog @danette @alisonp thank you all. This was one in a quick run of five and the sharpest of the bunch, all of which were taken at the same speed and aperture (central focus point on the eye) so no reason why the focus should suddenly move to the foreground bracken on two of them!

I do love the deer in Bushy Park and will try and get a decent shot of our herd of Red sometime.

That is wonderful Emma. You can get so close to your deer too. Any deer in this area are very timid indeed - probably has something to do with the locals shooting anything that moves (including other locals!)

@steampowered We are very lucky, although these are wild, they are so used to people that you can get in reasonably close (apart from the Red deer during the rut in October!). The Fallow just get on with whatever they are doing, especially if you can sit down so become less noticeable (no plastic bag for doing that today though). I didn't think guns were that big a problem in your area?!!

@emmadurnford Hi Emma. This is a very rural area and shotguns abound as do the idiots who think that they can shoot but in actuality can't.

Love the rather dandy headgear. He looks as though he thinks he's rather superior wearing this, which of course he is!! Hot shot!! x @steampowered we have deer in NE Hampshire too lots of them, they stroll in to the garden and eat all the best bits, and then push off......can't get close to them though for the same reason as you I guess!

Lovely shot beautifully framed/cropped. Re @steampowered ditto here you would have to be lucky to get that close here. Still a great shot though.

@nicolaeastwood @steampowered I really did not realise there was such a problem in the area :-( The deer in Bushy Park are culled but only once a year in a controlled way by the game keeper (September for the Stags and November for the Does) @barrowlane thank you, I have only seen deer in the countryside form a very long way away!

nice one . Iam no expert but got myself a 70-300 lens last fall. It has focussing problems or it is just the way it is. But it seems like it never wanted to focus on what i wanted.Inside a room it would not take a photo at all. Then I switched it to manual and it works good.Last Nov.I got a photo of a owl about 10 feet away when i was out hunting and i can get them long shots also.Iam no expert.I just don't know any better. So if you find any thing better let me know.

You are collating such a wonderful collection of deer. That one is so funny. The way he is looking at you - "ok, just deal with it", this is me right now in a fix. "So...." Photographically, - so clear - you can see the individual fern fronds.
