14th February 2013

Back to the Shwedagon Pagoda today in late afternoon. There is a potential photograph each way you turn but today I wanted to show that it is not just Westerners that are photographing everything.

We may have a specific view of Monks in Asia but they are just normal people who have chosen a particular lifestyle, often for just a short period of time. I have learnt that the popular opinion of Monks having no belongings and queuing to accept alms early each morning is not the only side to their lives. Here, most Monks we saw were with their families, often chatting on their mobile phones and... taking photographs. This Monk was taking a long time to get the perfect composition and in true photographer style was ‘chimping’ his photographs afterwards!
