28th December 2013

Today we are heading down to Penzance in Cornwall to spend New Year with my Mum, sister and other relatives. It is a long drive (300 miles door-to-door) and fortunately the weather is the clearest it has been for days. Before our big trip we thought we would get a breath of fresh air and have a look at the high tide down at the lock after all this rain.

The water was not actually that high BUT the current was really fast… so fast that this canoeist did not have to paddle downstream towards Richmond, he simply occasionally used his blade to steer as he floated off at great speed.
Great fun if you don't have to paddle back! This journey will take a long while particularly if there is a lot of traffic! Keep safe!

He looks a lonely soul in the water.

@maggiemae It is funny, he seemed to have struggled up from Richmond so I'm hoping this was his return journey (not sure they take canoes on the bus) @barrowlane He was the only person out on the river this morning!
