045 - Turkey Day

This may not be the most artistic photo and my oven is a bit of a mess, but this is really special to me, as it is the first time I have made my own turkey! Due to COVID, we had Thanksgiving at our own house this year. It was bittersweet - we missed being with family, but it was exciting to tackle the meal and part of that was my first turkey. My mother sent me my grandmother's classic roasting pan, which made it even more special, and I found some wonderful instructions online and I am so proud - it turned out perfect! Flavorful and moist and just so so good. So I had to document! Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Congratulations! My daughter-in-law is a wonderful cook, and we gladly accepted their invitation for Thanksgiving dinner. She usually gathers with her family, but both her father and grandparents are recovering from covid so it was a bittersweet holiday for her. We are in agriculture, and our son works with us and lives just down the road so we are kind of a "bubble" or "pod" or sorts.

@aecasey That's awesome that you were still able to have that time! My husband and I both have had COVID, but our kids have not and there have been some outbreaks at their schools. I didn't want to chance them carrying something to my family or catching something either. I got to video-call my mother, though, all morning with my turkey questions. :)
