One wonders how these little guys end up where they are often found. I nearly stepped on this turtle while walking around our yard so I put him in some freshly mulched landscaping and it immediately burrowed beneath it to hide. Its markings were different from anything I have ever seen.
Where do you live that you get these turtles in your yards without putting them there yourself? We have two rescued California Desert Tortoises in our yard, but they were on the streets when I rescued them.... 45+ years ago,
