Butterfly, Splendid Ochre by ethelperry

Butterfly, Splendid Ochre

Our butterfly season is short with very few specimens compared with the North of Australia. Thus they are precious when we see them here.
This is Trapezites symmomus. I sat for for a good half hour watching and waiting for it to settle and open its wings.

How wonderful Ethel! Your patience paid off beautifully! How doubly special, you got a gorgeous photo when the opportunity arose! I'm so pleased for you!

@gigiflower @Weezilou Thank you. I spent more time thumbing through my books for an identification, only to find I had photographed this in different years some time ago. This one is better from an entomological point of view.

Lovely shot, you did well to stay put and wait for it to perform for you

Well worth the wait. We dont tend to see too many butterflies here and when we do they dont settle

Top marks Ethel, I don't have that kind of patience. Fantastic shot of a butterfly I don't recall ever having seen. Excellent dof shows the subject very clearly.

VML the results of your patience and research for such as this. We don't seem to have as many butterflies as we have had in the past. Whilst they are besotted by the lavender, we don't see many on other blooms. At the same time, I've resolved to reduce flowers in flavour of flowering shrubs which bloom for longer periods, are more hardy...and some are evergreen.
