St. Mark Baptist Church by eudora

St. Mark Baptist Church

This small church in Port Allen, LA was added to the National Register of Historic Places partly because it owns two plantation cemeteries where enslaved people were buried. FInding and preserving these cemeteries has been an ongoing project for several years across the region.
Here is a link to my review of The Book of Lost Friends which combines Louisiana, history, slavery and current events. You might enjoy it. I certainly did. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3254206068

@allie912 Good review! Thanks so much for suggesting this book. I put it on my Want to Read list. I've been reading and discussing a lot of young adult books with my grandchildren lately as part of the family effort to supplement their online school. In between I read my own choices!

This is a great shot of this historical building. What an engaging piece of history.

I really love these simple churches. To me they truly represent the heart of faithful people coming together for a shared belief without all the trappings the larger buildings entail. As lovely as some of the artwork is in and on those buildings- this kind seems more in line with the Fisherman from Galilee and the early believers. I'm glad this one will stay intact. Good shot!

@olivetreeann I agree. They really show the faith of the people who built them--and maintain them. I had a grand plan for Lent this year to photograph churches, but COVID had other plans. Thanks for you comments.
