Magnolia Baptist Church

A scene from the movie "Where the Crawdads Sing" was filmed in this historic Black church in Madisonville, Louisiana. The church is no longer active, but it played an important role in the lives of the people who worked in the lumber industry in the first part of the twentieth century.

Beautiful church- it's such a shame it's no longer being used. Well, at least it was used in a movie.

@olivetreeann @grammyn I really appreciate your continued interest in my photos of old Louisiana churches. This one has a group trying to restore it, and money from the movie company will help. The more I learn about how important these churches were to poor Black communities, the more I understand the importance of trying to save some of them. They often served as church, school and community center.
