St. Mary's Episcopal Church by eudora

St. Mary's Episcopal Church

Weyanoke, Louisiana

Built in 1857 in an isolated area to serve about 20 plantation families, its membership declined when improved transportation made it possible to attend the larger Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville. St. Mary's was deconsecrated in 1947. A nonprofit group works to preserve the building and opens it occasionally for visitors.
Great lines to the building. Pleasing to the eye.

It’s a beautiful building and I’m so glad people are preserving it. It’s a shame it’s not in use anymore.

That's kind of sad that it was "retired" but at least they didn't tear it down for condos or something!

Didn't realize that a church could be deconsecrated.
