I had an opportunity to take a quick trip to Los Angeles with my husband! I researched a few places to take some photography and came across this location north of Malibu. I liked the character of the rock formations.
I do have to say I am glad to be back in Colorado though...I experienced my first earthquake the morning we were heading out of town! Definitely an experience I wouldn't want to repeat, lol!!
WOW! Spectacular! I grew up in SoCal and was still there for the Northridge Earthquake of 1994… almost twice as big as the one you felt!! I don't miss earthquakes at all. This shot truly is stunning!
Oh, I also meant to say that El Matador Beach was my hang out!! Love it there! Most people who visit Malibu go to Zuma… El Matador and El Pescador use to be off the radar back when it was my stomping grounds. I wonder if that's still the case.
This is amazing Wendy, I don't know if you could take a bad photo if you tried!! Fav of course :)
Earthquakes are not fun :( We had plenty of them in NZ when I grew up. We used to have Earthquake drills where we had to get under our desks at school.
@trinda Thank you so much Trinda! So jealous you are going to Maui!! I have never been and hope you have a wonderful trip! I sure look forward to seeing your photos!
@seejillrun Thank you so much Jill! I was definitely glad the earthquake wasn't greater thank the 4.4 we had Monday! That was enough of a wake up call for sure!
I definitely fell in love with El Matador Beach!! It is just beautiful and still seems to be off the radar, which is one of the reasons I was attracted to it!! Definitely a little known gem in that area!
@kiwichick Thank you so much Lesley!! You are awesome! I definitely have never experienced anything like that before. It woke us up with a jolt and I initially thought I was dreaming before I realized it was an earthquake! I grew up in Iowa, so we had the tornado drills, lol!
@terryliv Thank you so much Poppo!! I sure was hoping to post while I was gone, but I was so busy and on the go that I didn't have any time to download photos until I got home! Sure feels good to back online!
Wonderful water movement and color. You arranged the foreground beautifully to create a sweep of rock and shoreline. Fav. As a veteran of the Loma Prieta earthquake in the Bay Area, I can understand how that little one got your attention!
or my drop shot from today
I used 100mm macro lens. fully extended. the drop was about 6cm from the lens. f10, iso 200. on camera flash at around 1/8th power. exposre set to continuous. used a syringe to drop into a glass bowl filled to the brim. camera horizental. clock about 30cm away from the setup. all other lights also turned on.
took around 100 shots. got about 6 usable, this being the best.
dropped continuously with right hand, kept the shutter pressed with the left. focussed with live view by putting the syringe where the drop was going to be. leaving it on manual settings on lens and camera
Absolutely beautiful - as always Wendy! It's been a wonderful journey watching you grow as a photographer since we started at 365. I may need to pick your brain when I start doing more water landscape shots this summer. And want to buy the ND filter soon as well. Hope you don't mind if I message you over at FB when I have questions?
@kass Thank you so much Kass for your great comments! You can definitely message me on FB anytime with questions. Can't wait to see your water landscapes!
wow Wendy .. you can easily publish a photo book with these awesome images .... can only imagine how these look in person ... but you are doing such a fantastic job sharing with us ..Fav
