Shadow by farmreporter

Shadow

I learned that Shadow will keep his alert expression for long periods of time if I mistakenly wrap his favorite throw toy around the clothes line when I throw it. It's a ball with a long rope through the middle - and it knots itself nicely to the line when it hits the line.
Ooops! Oh well, I was able to make many in camera adjustments while he gazed motionless at his toy so this is actually SOOC. (sorry, Frank @frankhymus and Arthur @wordpixman)
But as Liz Hammond @lizhammond said, sometimes it is just pride that makes us want to announce that.
And yes, I did untangle Shadow's toy off the line after the photo shoot!
We'll do anything to get a photo. Poor Shadow. I wonder how long he would have stayed like that. He's lovely 😌

Shadow IS lovely! Thanks for the follow. I am near Kingston, so not too far away. I will be interested to follow your project and your life.

@sheilaj Thanks for the follow, Sheila. So nice to know there are other 365ers in the area!

So cute!

Excellent work, Wendy; in no way boastful, and you should feel rightly proud that it is indeed all your own work as described, not entirely that of an unseen camera designer or manufacturer. Well done, and a definite Fav for me!

What a crafty idea Wendy, this has turned out so well too, your Shadow is a beautiful dog & a lovely face.

@wordpixman Thank you so much, Arthur - your praise means a lot to me.

Nice shot

First question, what is SOOC? Love that you could get this and that Shadow was so cooperative His eye is twinkling.

@granagringa
SOOC stands for straight out of the camera - no post editing. There is a lot of controversy about this - there are some who insist that all photos can be improved with post editing - and while I agree - I have mixed feelings about it. So - I have learned to not comment if my pictures are SOOC except in the case of an exceptional shot that could not be improved on.
I have included a link to a discussion held not too long ago that shows just how passionate people can get regarding this topic. I really like Liz Hammond’s opinion that sometimes people will note SOOC if they are really proud of a shot.

Thanks so much for the explanation and the link. I'll be interested in seeing how the discussion goes.
June 24th, 2016
@granagringa The discussion is now over with all sides agreeing to disagree!
June 24th, 2016
I"m a good at agreeing to disagree. As I barely do any post processing, some cropping, brightening, and saturation of color, I lean toward the camera.

Hahaha, love it. Great idea, as long as he got his toy and a treat later:) fav

Hi Wendy -- love the story with this picture. You certainly thought on your feet to get pictures while he was so entranced. We're partners with week, so here is a challenge (not an original, but one that I find quite refreshing after lots of intentionality): Leave your house using any transportation you wish (feet, car, tractor, whatever). Travel on the path/road/direction for exactly ten minutes. Then stop and wherever you find yourself, photograph something (or many somethings) that you see at or from exactly that spot.

@farmreporter Hi Wendy -- I've been off the computer for a while, recovering from some dread malaise/illness, somehow teaching classes and cooking dinner but that's about it. I didn't complete your challenge. I will tag you when I do. My plan for the imminent future is to pull back, not join get-pushed challenges, not try to comment, just post a picture when I get a chance...sort of a sabbatical I suppose after 2.5 years of pretty intense involvement in 365 stuff.

@francoise I know what you mean - as you noticed I have been remiss in posting as well since we just finished painting the interior of the WHOLE MAIN FLOOR of our house.
That meant almost emptying all the rooms - including closets to get that done. Next is to refinish our hardwood floors so I will not be putting furniture back for another two weeks.
I guess you understand when I say I did not complete my challenge either - I actually miss the time I spend on 365 and looking forward to when I can devote more time to it.
Will tag you (probably this week) when I catch up.
Take care of yourself - hope you get feeling better soon, I really enjoy your nature shots so hope you keep them up.

Beautiful photo! Beautiful dog, too! Yeah, my Shadow pretty much follows me around everywhere too. But she got her name because she is black. I found that it is quite a common name around here!
