Checking the Sap by farmreporter

Checking the Sap

There are very few true traditional maple syrup producers who still rely on the traditional methods left anymore.
But this family still use buckets to gather the sap and wood to boil the maple water down to make syrup. And, he even tests the syrup readiness by eye rather than the thermometer.
Such an art to the traditional way! And - as a bonus - his children and grandchildren want to continue to produce the same way!
Fabulous shot!

I have never thought about the production of Maple syrup before. It is good to see this man at work - a fabulous catch with that light just falling across his beard.
