Oldman Dam Flood Plain

I was so pleased that someone had cut a hole in the 8 foot high chain link fence that barricaded off this flood plain. I was wondering how I would get a decent shot as I was walking down - and jumped for joy when I saw the hole!

are the grasses already brown or that's the soil? the scree is spilling over the water. quite the shot, wendy. aces!

The prairie grasses here are brown most of the year - only green in the spring when the snow has given moisture.
This part of Alberta is very arid and could almost be considered a desert.
