Another Time by fbailey

Another Time

The third of Anthony Gormley's life sized iron statues in Kent, this time placed on Fulsam Rocks outside the Turner Centre in Margate. I was very surprised to see how fast the tide seemed to flow here. Only a few hours earlier in the day the only parts of the statue visible were his head and shoulders above the waterline.

Days earlier the statue narrowly missed being hit by a cargo vessel which ran aground.

Cool statue, I would imagine they have caused some confusion or even concern for those not in the know about them

I am being very good and not dwelling on the cargo shop... It must look weird when this thing is mostly submerged?

Good photo but I don't like Anthony Gormley's work, even if it is art and creative.

@peadar Looks just like someone trying to walk into the waves to end his problems!

@suzanne234 I did read somewhere that he'd put 31 statues up in NY some on rooftops and people were concerned they were potential suicides..

I must try and get to see these statues. 😊

It was not only interesting to read the article, but to read the comments below it. Seems there is a division of opinions as to whether or not they are worthy of being placed on the beach. Good shot!

These statues are nearly as good as all of the little houses. It's such a fun concept to have them appear and disappear with the tides! Love the way he's staring out to sea.

I find these things so eerie. Never entirely sure if I like them or not. The rust colour does look great in contrast to the sea.
