FORF #14 - Folkestone Cheese Grater

Today's picture for the Flash of Red February challenge, theme Architecture/Man Made. This is a shot of Folkestone's Quarterhouse in Tontine Street which is an arts and entertainment venue. It's known locally as The Cheese Grater due to its unusual white steel cladding. Apparently it won an award in 2015 for being Folkestone's favourite ugliest building.

"Folkestone Quarterhouse is a Creative Foundation project, run alongside the Folkestone Triennial, Folkestone Artworks, Creative Quarter and home venue for Folkestone Book Festival. Quarterhouse shares the Creative Foundation’s dedication to enabling the regeneration of Folkestone through creative activity. The Creative Foundation believes that everyone is creative and creativity has the power to change people and places for the better.

Quarterhouse offers weekly programme of the best theatre for children and families, comedians, gigs and talks. At the core of Quarterhouse’s work are its plans to build local audiences for contemporary performance, including theatre, dance and work in the public realm. This is being done through a series of co-curated festivals taking place throughout the year, developed in partnership with people and organisations in Folkestone. The inspiration for the festivals comes both from local partners and the work we see artists producing ..."
Interesting looking building. Cool reflections in the windows. The different festivals sound interesting

VML the sound of this. We used to live in Swindon...a regular 'test bed' for concerts, drama, comedy etc. Although we're only 30 mins from Rennes, Brittany’s capital, we’ve become so used to living in the sticks...it's a real wrench to go Rennes and city life. Needs must, re Brexit...dreaded paperwork etc.

Cool! I like the way you have photographed it, especially the building within a building.

Lovely reflections. It may not be very nice but a lot of good things are going on in it.

A modern building. Good capture. Sounds like there's lot to do there.

Interesting, works well for the challenge, but what a ghastly piece of design.
