Diminutive doorway by fbailey

Diminutive doorway

Another shot from a few days ago taken in Canterbury. This doorway is only about 5 ft high and I thought it would make a much greater impact if I snapped it with someone walking through it. So I asked a young lad if he'd mind just exiting via the door so I could take a picture. The next thing I knew I was approached by a security guard who was questioning my motives - I'd thought I was in a back part of the Cathedral grounds, but whoops I'd inadvertently strayed into the nearby College grounds! How extremely embarrassing - I will never become involved in street photography!!!

That is very funny. At least they didn't confiscate your camera! Great shot made better by the young man dodging through the doorway

But you got the picture! I hate it when that happens - getting told off with photography! I'm not at all cool, calm and collected when that happens!

@suesouthwood Thank you! I did offer to delete the picture and fellow 365er, Catherine Otley, who was with me said she didn't know who was more embarrassed, the security guard or me! After all the hassle I felt I had to post this ...

@maggiemae Thanks Maggie - must make a note not to wander into school grounds in future! They'll be warning the pupils not to speak to elderly ladies with grey hair:)

Love the composition and the processing

Having someone in the shot does give an idea of the size of the door. It is a great looking door. Worth the effort of the shot so glad you did not have to delete it.

@littleconnie Thank you for such a lovely comment - it does look much better than the empty doorway version.

All the embarrassment was worth it, for the photo works so well. Luckily both the "child" and the security guard were good humoured.

@redandwhite Thank you! Even if I rabbited on for ages to you about how embarrassed I was ...

Shame about all the hassle but worth it. The decisive moment, one foot over the threshold and the fingers perfectly placed. BTW, good use of language, I like 'diminutive', much better than merely small.

@royrj That's very kind of you, thank you. Must confess I like using alliteration in titles and originally was going to call it "Dwarf Door". Then thought I might offend someone else so changed it!

what a great story & a really wonderful door! I was taking pictures of crows on the roof of a supermarket once & two armed guards approached me because they thought I was casing the place! Bad enough, but I was in Nairobi, they spoke no English & I then realised it was a Westfield shopping centre -- after I saw people had to go through a metal detector to get into the shops! Oops - I was just so excited by phtograping the African crows, I had completely forgotten where I was...
