I was battling with bracketing in the caves along the Zig Zag path again today when this chap stopped and asked me about my camera. He also had a Nikon, but a much more upmarket one, and I told him I was trying to learn about bracketing. He was very knowledgeable and offered good advice, particularly regarding taking a shot inside the caves at a low shutter speed with children running past or riding a bike so that instead of car trails, I would have child trails. I thought this was a brilliant idea, but for some considerable time after that suggestion, no children appeared except walking sedately sad to say.
So I asked if he would mind being part of my 100 Strangers project which is languishing right now and he kindly agreed. I do not know his name, but he was very generous with his time and advice and I appreciate it. When I have a conversation like the one I had today, I realise what an awful lot I have yet to learn.
This is a great portrait! He has such an intelligent and intense appearance.
I truly appreciate it when strangers offer their advice and knowledge so freely.
A FAV!
this is a really lovely capture and under difficult conditions - you may have a lot to learn (as do most of us) but you use what you already know well, and that is what counts! Sounds like a lovely encounter.
You have framed him so well and ditto the use of natural light. Put these together with the expression you have captured and you have a superb portrait. Well done F. Fav
What a lovely man! So this was where the "child trail" idea came from. It was interesting to Google - some of the sites had such good, simple ideas. :)
Great portrait.
Photography has proved to be a nice ice-breaker for me. I'm not very good at starting conversations with strangers but sometimes people stop and chat about the camera or the view I'm trying to capture :)
@4rky I'm surprised how easily people talk to me with a camera too, and dogs, especially small fluffy ones, work even better! Still find it hard to ask for a picture though.
