Robber Fly, aka Assassin Fly

He's a big brute of a fly, just waiting for an appropriately sized bug to fly by, then he will fly after it, inject it with venom, and...it's dinnertime. Nature isn't always pretty, is it? It is thought that this guy keeps some of the insect populations down, although he also eats bees, dragonflies, etc.
Terrific close-up shot

And he's so well armed for the job. What a wonderful close-up of a predator.

Wow...I guess not! Glad it doesn’t do that to animals or humans! And, I thought flies just laid eggs on your food, which is bad enough!
