Yep - that's what you'd find in Norwich!
Had a lovely but very rushed 24 hrs there this weekend with my oldest friends (who hate being called that!). This church, St Michaels (Miles) Coslany is behind their house, it caught my eye with the beautiful patterns in the stonework made by putting white stone on black flint. I'm told that in about 1890 the church had a new, wealthy rector, who made a generous donation to raise the church tower to make it higher than the others in the vicinity! You can just see the top of the window, the original height, below the new curved tower window. There really are so many churches and pubs in Norwich!
The photo came out very dull grey looking and I was about to discard it but did a bit of playing and added a touch of HDR which I thought helped bring out the patterns and the colour so at least I could post one that I took on the day.
Spent hours trying to catch up with all the good folk I follow when I got back... how on earth do YOU cope when you've been away?!
Many many thanks to all you lovely people who looked at my little rural post box over the weekend! Your views and comments are so very much appreciated .. mwah! x
@sabanford Well you're right insofar as I have older friends but I haven't had any friends for longer.... they are older than me though and it's a long-standing joke between us... :)
Great capture of this church. All those lovely windows. Makes me want to go inside and see them with the light coming through. Hope you had a good visit with your "old" friends.
@carisandrews Thanks Caris! FYI the original photo was quite grey but I played with the balance, upping the saturation a little bit, darkening it a little then I tried a HDR effect (all in picnik). Don't normally like HDR much but it certainly brought this to life, seemed to darken the windows, bring out the warm stone etc.
@christiehicks Thanks Christie - it was lovely inside. It used to be a 'hands-on discovery science centre' which the kids loved visiting, and somehow it didn't seem wrong to have it in there. Sadly it's closed down now and you can't go in any more. Norwich is full of beautiful medieval churches - so many you walk past without noticing them! My 'old' friends were great, Rob had just had surgery and it was reassuring to see him looking his normal self again. Called for a caffeine overload!!
Beautiful church and the touch of HDR looks great (I'm not a big fan of HDR either.... too much of it and the natural light is lost and all shots look the same)
@efbanford Thank you Eric! It had so many roofs and add-ons it was nigh impossible to get it looking straight! In the end I just sighed and went with the lines! :)
@helstor Thanks, and yes I think that's how I feel about HDR...was pleasantly surprised when it made it look better! Have a good week, hope the forecast stays bright :)
@woot Thanks Davide - I have never used HDR before and was pleased with the result... I could fade it out on Picnik to a point where I didn't feel it was taking over and thought sharing it was a good idea.
Looking forward to seeing your postbox!! :)
@filsie65 I've never tried HDR either: it's in my todo list along with other effects! I'll upload the postbox shot in the next days (probably tomorrow now that you reminded me): you'll see why not today in a while :)
@paigeypie Thank you Paige! Had a quick look - your photos are lovely! I think the editing did as much as my little old camera as the light on the day wasn't good - and of course it was nice to have something interesting to take a shot of! :)
@allred Thank you Mary Lou - Norwich is spoilt for beautiful old buildings - I got quite blase about it when I lived there and I think I notice it more when I go back now. If walls could talk....!
How beautiful! I like the pov and your processing is wonderful!
I used to spend hours catching up, but now, I try REALLY hard to just let it go. There are some of the people that I try to see every shot, but I still try to just let it go. It is hard though. :)
@cfitzgerald Thanks Courtney, I think it would have been a good subject from any angle! I guess you're right about letting it go a little when I have to play catch-up... perhaps with time I'll be able to give it a little slack. :)
Fantastic job on the editing! this looks great! really brings out the detail and the light. It can get a bit overwhelming to catch up with everyone when I haven't had a chance to comment. I think @cfitzgerald is right, sometimes we'll have to try let go a bit
