Today my children and I went to a Christmas party with disco and Father Christmas, and then on to the Christingle service in the church afterwards. At the service we got a Christingle each. The orange represents the world, the candle when lit represents Christ the light of the world, and there are four cocktail sticks with sweets on which represent the fruits of the earth. Lastly the red paper round the orange reminds us of christs Passion through which our redemption has come. The three Christingles are lit alongside a colour changing Angel (left), an advent candle counting down the days left, and a mini Christmas tree.
All this reminds me that there really isn't all that long left before Christmas arrives!
@lizzybean Thank you very much for the Fav. It is a lovely tradition, apparently it started in Germany in 1747 and was introduced into Church of England in 1968. The children love it! - Louise
