Enjoying the sunshine, and wandering around the Museum Gardens in York, I was pleased to see a display of birds of prey.
Unfortunately none of them were labelled and their keeper was giving a lengthy interview to a reporter.
My research makes me think this is a Little Owl, which was introduced into the south of Britain in the late 19th century. It is described as flat or square headed and only 21-23 cm tall. This one certainly ticked those boxes.
