In the grounds of the Museum Gardens in York there are a number of historical buildings, and this shot is from inside the remains of St Leonard's Hospital, which served the city from 1137 to 1539AD.
The remains consist of part of the hospital chapel, and the undercroft, from where this view was taken.
To the left, the busy city street can be seen, and beside that a tall attractive Victorian drinking fountain. Directly ahead is the main entrance with two ornate lights, and behind that the Lodge building. To the right a modern innovation - an ice cream kiosk.
Thank you all for your generous comments, and for the favs that this shot received. Glad you all like the arch. It's amazing that I've passed this place hundreds of times and only just spotted that this view was a good one for a shot!
