The 'Flying Scotsman' is one of the most famous steam locomotives in the world - indeed, some years ago it visited the USA and Australia. However, since 2006 it has been undergoing a major and very expensive overhaul. For several years, the expectation has been that it would be back in service 'next year'.
At long last the work is complete, apart from a repaint which is in progress in the workshops of the National Railway Museum here in York.
So, on 25th February it is due to make an appearance on a train from London Kings Cross to York. I imagine the crowds will be huge, so photo opportunities might be limited, but I hope to be there having a go!
Thank you all for your comments and kind thoughts. Not sure at the moment how often I will be able to post - it might be a now and then approach for the moment.
For those interested in the 'Flying Scotsman' saga, It should have been on a test run between York and Scarborough today, and I had planned to get shots of it in action. Sadly it failed it's readiness to run examination with a damaged spring, so back into repair mode again. Not too much time to get things right before it's first widely publicised main line passenger run on Thursday this week!
