It's quite a while since I walked around the city walls in York, so off I went. There are a number of views of York Minster towering over the city centre, and this viewpoint is one of my favourites.
Most of the buildings in the foreground date from the 1970s, when a rather run down area and a disused brewery were cleared and new houses and apartments were built.
For several years this clear view of the Minster was impossible, because the east end was covered with scaffolding while the stonework and east window were being restored, but now that work is complete.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, which put this shot on the Trending and Popular pages - your support is very much appreciated.
This type of view of the Minster has been protected by the local council for many years, with the height of new buildings being restricted, although some recent buildings have been higher than what has been allowed in the past. It would be a shame if such views were lost due to higher buildings.
